New Head Coach

Great news everyone! As of March 14th 2011, the search for a new head coach is over. Tom Lebherz has accepted the position as the Makos new head coach, effective April 1, 2011. Tom has been successfully coaching in the Bay Area for more than three decades, primarily in San Jose, and has had swimmers who have made it all the way to Olympic Trials. Tom is an American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level V Coach (the highest level), and is the Pacific Swimming Distance Coach, which involves bringing select swimmers to Colorado Springs to swim in the Olympic Training Center. Tom is a positive person, and is passionate and energetic about coaching, and he knows how to communicate with kids. He’s also been a teacher for over thirty years, and has coached athletes at all age levels.

Several of Tom’s current athletes will be following him to the Makos team. This will include approximately 10 senior age boys and girls, four of whom are sectional caliber swimmers.  These kids will help form that “top of the pyramid” that is so important to building a comprehensive and quality program. Tom will be bringing his senior swimmers to our pool for a practice. This will be a great opportunity for our swimmers and parents to get a good look at Tom’s coaching style, the rapport he has with his athletes, and most importantly to see what he has accomplished with these athletes. Please extend a warm welcome to Coach Tom when you get the chance!
